‘An important step in our specialty was made in 1957 when it was recognized as an INDEPENDENT SPECIALTY. This was also possible due to the fact that Dr. Voinea Marinescu, who knew from his own experience the importance of the anesthetist, was then the Minister of Health.
Regarding the journalism in the field in 1956, the first 2 monographs appear: “Anesthesia by Inhalation” written by Dr. Zorel Filipescu together with Dr. Leonida Bejan and “Anesthesia-Theoretical and practical problems” written by Acad. N. Hortolomei, Dr. .V.Marinescu, Dr. Setlacec and Dr.G.Litarczek.
In 1959 takes place the first scientific event “Romanian-Soviet Symposium” of anesthesia within ARLUS (Romanian Association for strengthening ties with the USSR) which brought together for the first time many of the country’s specialists and representatives of the USSR with surgeons they were working with.
We must add to this the transformation of the ATI section of the Surgery Society into an ATI SOCIETY in 1973, its first president being Dr. Zorel Filipescu, and vice-presidents G. Litarczek and S. Crivda. Dr. Radu Simionescu was elected secretary of society. This society starts organizing ATI symposia which have been held without interruption annually from 1974 until now. In 1976, the first National Congress of the Society was held in Bucharest, which enjoyed a wide domestic and international participation. ‘
